Essays by William, and Beyond
When I was in elementary school, I channeled much of my interest about astronomy into science writing. In fact, I remember one week in kindergarten when I wrote a "book" about the planets, made several copies by hand, and tried to sell them for a quarter on the side of the road (I did not sell any, but my mom did buy me a stapler!).
Since then, writing has been central to my science communication work. In high school, I wrote an encyclopedia and recorded a weekly podcast, De Omnibus and "Learning by William" (respectively), on topics in science, technology, and the humanities. The encyclopedia ended up being over 170,000 words long, and our podcast has 70 episodes. I also run the Essays by William blog, which has over 70,000 all-time readers and 82 published essays.
My work has been published in magazines such as Sky & Telescope and Amateur Astrophotography Magazine. Some selected works are available below.
A picture I drew when I was six years old, depicting a young boy (presumably myself) pointing a telescope at the stars.
